Harriet Nahanee
In January 2007, Harriet, 73 years old, was sentenced to 2 weeks in jail for the Eagleridge Bluffs blockade, despite her obviously poor health. While imprisoned she became ill with pneumonia. Shortly after her release, she was hospitalized and on Feb. 24, 2007, Harriet passed away into the spirit world. She was a residential school survivor and a fighter for Indigenous freedom. The Eagleridge Bluffs blockade was against expansion of the Sea-to-Sky Highway for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Harriet was from the Pacheedaht nation on southern Vancouver Island.
